My friend Maggie, a U11, hadn’t recalled at her first several Oireachtaí. Her hope was to recall this year, & to not be the first called on stage. She did end up recalling, & after the first number was called, every family member & friend of hers was relieved. Numbers passed, & dancer after dancer crossed the stage. Out of many, many girls, Maggie got 18th place- two away from going to worlds. (EDIT- one place!) If Maggie could go from almost last place to almost Worlds in one year, you can finish those three steps when you’ve got no energy. It’ll be worth it when you come off the stage like her sobbing hysterically, your legs shaking & head pounding, knowing that every minute was worth it.
I’ve seen a lot of leg bashing on my dash lately. I just want to celebrate the legs of Irish Dancers for a minute.
Let us celebrate that Irish Dance is unique.
We accept all different body types. In ID you see all different typs of legs, from thin to bulky, from short to long. We are…
"You see it in the legs, the beautiful legs. Legs are so important. I love legs.” -Deirdre Gallagher, Jig
Irish dance has made me love my legs and my body, because they are strong, they serve me well and can actually do things other than just looking good, and that’s what makes them beautiful.
This might be lame, but i’m really curious to see how many dancers there are using tumblr. Reblog or like if you consider yourself a dancer, let’s see how many of us there are on here.
